Devoloped in 1897 by felix hoffmann, a german
chemist in search of a remedy for his
father,s arthritis
1915
Initially marketed as a powder in a 250mg
bottle aspirin became avilable without a prescription, and
in tablet form, in 1915.
1948
Dr. lawrence craven, an American general Practtioner,
in 1948, noticed that the 400 men he
prescribed aspirin to hadn,t suffered any heart
attack.
1969
In 1969, when the first astronaut Neil armstrong
walked on the moon, Aspirin tables accompanied the
expedition as an importent component of the chest
medicine carried on board.
1971
Prof. john Vane in 1971 discovered how aspirin works
& later won the nobel prize for medicine.
1980
In 1980 FDA approved professional labeling indications
for aspirin in patients with prior Myocardial infarction (Heart
Attack), unstable angina & TIAs.The use of aspirin
expanded beyond pain relief to that of a potential
lifesaver.
1993
To ensure better tolerability from gastric side
effects associted with long term theraphy, Enteric
coated tables of aspirin were interoduced in 1993.
1996
In a survey on inventions conducted by an institute
(MIT) in USA in 1996, twice as many people
chose aspirin over the personal computer as an
invention they couldn,t live without.
Today
Over 70 million pounds of aspirin are produced
annually all over the world, making it the world's
most widely used drug.
