Reduce Blood Pressure with Vegetables High in Glutamic Acid

It has been observed that using the natural way to lower blood pressure is very effective. There are many minerals and nutrients that help patients in regulating their blood pressure. One such substance is glutamic acid which is found in vegetables. Do not confuse high glutamic acid foods with MSG. They are not the same. Foods that are high in glutamic acid are called 'Umami', and are considered the 'fifth taste', after sweet, sour, salty and bitter. They add a rich, savoury taste although getting used to them may take some efforts.

Hypertensive patients are advised to eat vegetables high in glutamic acid.

Hypertensive patients are advised to increase their servings of vegetables to 5 per day. These vegetables should be high in glutamic acid. Avoid salty and canned vegetables and instead use sodium free products to lower blood pressure. All burgers, lunchmeats and hotdogs should be replaced with vegetarian foods in combination with nuts, grain and vegetable protein. For instance, add sautéed mushrooms to your burgers and pastas, or fresh tomato slices on your burgers and sandwiches. In order to make your food more beautiful, add textured vegetable products to your meals like in soups and casseroles.

Learn to cook Asian recipes at home as these include lots of natural eatables, like seaweed which can be sprinkled on every thing and can also be made into sushi. Use a spoonful of miso in soups instead of broth. Chinese cabbage, mushrooms, tofu and soy sauce are also rich in glutamic acid. Other vegetables to include in your diet are peas, corn, beets, carrots, onions, spinach and green peppers.

You can also lower your blood pressure by drinking 8 oz of vegetable juice daily. Some people might need to work hard at cultivating a taste for this, but once they do it will prove to be worth the effort. Drinking juices will also help you in losing weight which in turn can help you in maintaining your blood pressure.

Consider combining your goal of lower blood pressure with losing weight, and start drinking 8oz of vegetable juice daily.
