We have discussed a lot about the reasons which lead to raise our Blood Pressure and result in the form of Heart Stroke which finally cost the life a person. The situation becomes more gruesome with this report that hypertension is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Although people die of different diseases, yet the underlying cause is often hypertension. Mild hypertension can affect a person for years without any evident symptoms, but once a person is diagnosed with hypertension there are various lifestyle changes and medications that reduce and manage the problem. But, on the other hand, there are also certain medications that an individual with hypertension should avoid.

Medications to Avoid if You Have High Blood Pressure

  1. Some of the most common drugs that should be avoided by people with hypertension include Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Tylenol. These three drugs can cause hypertension because they not only cause sodium retention but also affect the expansion of blood vessels. A study conducted by Harvard Medical School called the Nurses Health Study found that Tylenol is linked to high blood pressure.
  2. Birth control is getting popularity among the west and different methods & pills are used for this purpose without knowing the fact that these pills increase the rate of blood pressure. It is encouraged that Women with hypertension have their blood pressure checked before starting any contraceptive. They must also monitor their blood pressure when taking the contraceptive.
  3. In today's fast paced society, missing work or school because of an illness is a luxury few of us can afford. The onset of sniffling, sneezing, and coughing has us heading for the medicine cabinet, looking for fast relief. The same medications that bring such wonderful relief from cold and flu symptoms may also be hindering your body's ability to deal with the illness in its own way, and may be prolonging your suffering as medications for cold and flu also raise blood pressure and should be avoided.
  4. Everyone wishes to look smart rather dashing. Instead of doing any physical exercise & eating a balanced & appropriate food to look attractive, people take some weight loss drugs. These drugs are highly dangerous as they can trigger hypertension.
  5. We all have been indulged into endless number of activities which keep us all the time under stress. This stress causes hypertension which has a devastating effect on the body, and the condition worsens when medications exacerbate the problem. Patients with hypertension should monitor their blood pressure while taking any medication that could have harmful side effects. If possible, certain drugs should be completely avoided to reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.
