Management of High Blood Pressure after Exercise
|
|
Exercise induced hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure increases
after a bout of exercise, resulting in an increased risk for vascular disease. Fortunately, this
type of hypertension can be treated through a variety of means, including self-regulation during
exercise, dietary control and prescription medications.
Management of High Blood Pressure after Exercise
While exercising it is important to monitor your body’s
reactions. If you are aware of the signs of exercise induced hypertension, then you would be in
a better position to avoid them next time. There are easy ways to self-regulate. For instance,
you can buy a biofeedback tool such as a heart rate monitor. Take careful notes of the changes
in your heart rate with the help of this monitor during different types of exercises that you
do. Record all the readings you take in a notepad while doing a certain activity and then
compare them with each other. This would definitely tell you which exercise induces hypertension
in you and which are safe for your health. You can either modify those routines or avoid them
altogether.
Diet plays a vital role in balancing your blood pressure levels. If you are
experiencing exercise induced hypertension, then it is time for you to change your diet and make it
suitable to your needs. The first thing to do if you are a smoker is to quit smoking as it
increases blood pressure. Secondly, minimize the amount of sodium you take. Your daily sodium
intake should not exceed 2000 mg per day. Stop the use of table salt and canned or frozen goods as
these also contain salt in the form of preservative.
Usually, patients who are unable to control their exercise induced hypertension
with dietary changes are prescribed medicines. The best option is to control your blood pressure
with natural remedies as these do not have side effects and are also cheaper than drugs. However,
if natural methods do not work for you, then visit a doctor who will prescribe a hypertension
medicine to you. These can have side effects like confusion, depression, constipation or diarrhea
and increased urination. Inform the doctor if the medicine does not suit you or if it is not having
any benefit so that he can change it. Do not discontinue or take any other medication without the
doctor’s approval.
