Home and Natural Remedies for Low Blood Pressure
|
|
People are usually more concerned with high blood pressure than low. This is
because high blood pressure is very common these days. What most people forget is that low blood
pressure or hypotension can be dangerous as well. According to the American Heart Association,
severely low blood pressure deprives brain and other organs of oxygen and nutrients, leading to
shock, which can be a fatal condition.
Natural Remedies for Low Blood Pressure
There are different factors that cause blood pressure to
become low. The American Heart Association has stated several contributors of hypotension, such
as pregnancy. It is suggested that women who are pregnant should monitor their blood pressure
regularly, especially if they already had hypotension prior to pregnancy. Another reason for
hypotension can be dehydration or malnutrition. Blood pressure is regulated by food and water
that is provided to the body. People who do not drink at least eight glasses of water daily and
eat a balanced diet can have low blood pressure. Another unexpected cause of low blood pressure
is medicines such as tricyclic antidepressants, narcotics and alcohol. These medicines can
lower blood pressure as a side effect and a doctor should be visited
if such is the case.
As opposed to high blood pressure, doctors usually do not prescribe medications
for hypotension. They will advice patients about some natural diet modifications that will help
them in normalizing their blood pressure levels.
Some of these natural remedies are given below.
These can be tried to bring blood pressure up to the
normal range.
Beetroot Juice: Drinking a cup of beetroot juice twice a day
can improve your blood pressure within a week.
Vitamins and Nutrients: Eat lots of citrus fruits and
vegetables to replenish your body with protein, vitamin C and all B vitamins which are very
beneficial in normalizing low blood pressure. To provide the required dose of proteins to the body,
lean meats can also be eaten.
Salt: All hypertension patients are warned off the use of salt
or sodium foods. For patients of hypotension, the advice is the exact opposite. They are allowed to
use salt. However, this does not mean that they are going to sprinkle loads of salt over every
thing. Salt is a necessary nutrient but its excessive use is not healthy in any case. Thus, if you
are using it to bring up your blood pressure, check your pressure every day to see if it has not
increased beyond the normal level.
Natural remedies should also be followed after consulting with a doctor.
