Accuracy of Digital wrist Blood Pressure Monitors
|
|
Checking blood pressure regularly is
very crucial as for the hypertensive people, blood pressure fluctuates widely and still the
person doesn’t know about it because he feels very few symptoms or doesn’t feel them at all.
So it is really important that BP is monitored regularly or even continuously and this
requires frequent visits to the doctor, who uses his meter that goes around the upper arm.
But the question arises here is that, does it feasible to visit doctor so recurrently, when
you are living 40 Km away from his clinic and require 45 minutes or an hour to reach him?
Obviously the answer is ‘no’ and what is the solution? Keeping the digital arm
monitors at home is also not the solution, because these are expensive and
their right place is the doctor’s clinic. The perfect answer to the question is the
wrist BP monitor, which is compact and portable and is reasonably
cheap.
Sometimes people question the accuracy
of the wrist BP monitors and argue that these are accurate but the fact is that these are as
accurate as are the expensive BP monitors which are found at the public places and are
automatic. Their low price tag doesn’t mean that these are designed with less care and are
not accurate enough! In fact their way of use is to be blamed for their poor accuracy. If
they are used properly by holding them at the level of the heart then these are very
accurate. The inconsistencies in BP are, of course, not detected by these monitors and these
display an error message.
Their advantages outweigh any of their
so-called issues. Their advantages start with their small size and portability. You can carry
it with you to anywhere you go and this is a great advantage to you as a hypertension
patient. Accurate readings can be achieved if you keep the meter at the level of your heart
or you can measure the BP while lying down. The wrist monitors are much cheaper than those at
the clinics and are available in many models with different prices because of difference in
features and extras available in it, but all have almost the same accuracy. It is not
specified for one person but the same monitor can be used by all the people at home and can
be used by your friends. Take readings at specified times throughout the day and record them,
so that you can show them to the doctor when you visit the clinic after 1 week or
two.
