5 Major Contributors to Low Blood Pressure or Hypotension
|
|
You often hear people saying that it doesn’t matter if your blood pressure is
low. You should worry if it is high. This is not true at all as low blood pressure or hypotension
is as dangerous as high blood pressure. Your blood pressure is low when the blood in our arteries
moves with less than required force. This slowed rate of blood circulation affects the normal
functioning of the vital organs because they do not receive the volume of blood required by them to
work properly. Thus, the functioning of our bodies is adversely affected.
To pinpoint the exact cause of low blood pressure is difficult.
However, there are some general causes that lead to this condition.
1. Drugs and medication: Hypotension can be caused as a side
effect of medicines, particularly those drugs that are used for hypertension. Over a period of
time, they lead to a low blood pressure. Anti depressants also cause an immediate lowering of the
blood pressure. Hypotension is also a major side effect of continuous use of diuretics.
Cardiovascular medicines also lead to this condition. Some analgesics also contribute towards
hypotension.
2. Dehydration: Dehydration is caused by vomiting, excess
sweating, diarrhoea or less water consumption. This in turn leads to low blood pressure.
3. Improper diet: People who do not eat properly also complain
about a low blood pressure. Insufficient calorie intake slows the blood circulation in the body,
hence effecting the functioning of the organs.
4. Alcohol consumption: Excess of anything is not good. Same
is the case with alcohol consumption. When taken in huge amounts, it can lead to various problems
including hypotension.
5. Other diseases: The overall health condition of a person
also affects his blood pressure. If the person is suffering from diabetes, he may also suffer from
a low blood pressure. In the same way, people who have cardiac complications are usually warned
about hypotension as this is a major possibility for them. Anatomical inflammations such as
enlarged liver, pancreatic swelling or cardiac inflammation can also cause a decrease in a person’s
blood pressure. Low blood pressure also occurs when a person is suffering from vasovagal reaction,
which is a nervous system disorder.
The causes of low blood pressure vary from person to person. However, its
symptoms are quite common and similar in people. These include irregular breathing, dizziness,
vomiting and headaches. More importantly, no matter what the cause, hypotension can be treated
easily. In fact, in most cases, there is no need for medication. Patients can bring up their levels
with diet and exercise.
